Une éducation manquée / Los dos ciegos
Information
The educational programme of Teatro de la Zarzuela gathers two entertaining compositions in a single event, one by French composer Emmanuel Chabrier and another by Spanish zarzuela author Francisco Asenjo Barbieri.
Chabrier’s Une éducation manquée is an operetta in one act and nine scenes with a libretto by Eugène Leterrier and Albert Vanloo. Premiered in 1879, Une éducation tells the story of recently married young Count Gontran and his wife Hélène, who don’t know what to do on their wedding night. The Count’s tutor, Pausanias, can’t give him any useful tips.
Los dos ciegos is a comic interlude in one act composed by the ‘father of zarzuela’, Asenjo Barbieri, with a libretto by Luis de Olona. It features two characters pretending to be blind, who try to deceive each other. Los dos ciegos was premiered in Madrid’s Teatro del Circo on 25 October 1855.
With the support of the Juan March Foundation, this educational programme is targeted at a teenage audience (12 to 16 years old).
