The actor and singer, Daniel Diges, stars in a musical drama that tells the story of Jonathan Larson, an aspiring composer from the 1990s, who is struggling to make his dreams come true. This adaptation can be seen at the Gran Teatro CaixaBank Príncipe Pío from 3 February to 28 April 2023, with performances only on Fridays.
It is Luis Álvarez’s adaptation of a play by Jonathan Larson, a playwright and musician known for being the author of RENT, the Pulitzer and Tony award winning show that was performed on Broadway for twelve consecutive years. For the occasion, this production is directed by the prestigious Gabriel Olivares, winner of the Max Award 2012 for the Best Musical for Avenue Q, and José F. Romero.
This production tells the autobiographic tale of Jonathan Larson, a musical that was premièred in 1990 at the Teatro Second Stage (on Off Broadway), under the name of 30/90 a rock monologue and fragments of Superbia, a futuristic and innovative theatre play in those times. This musical was made into a film in 2021, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It is a musical drama featuring Andrew Garfield, who was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Actor for his performance of Jonathan Larson.
Now, the musical is coming to Madrid with Daniel Diges in the leading role, playing Jon, an aspiring composer who works as a waiter in New York whilst writing what he hopes will be the next hit American musical. However, as he is finishing his piece, he must also withstand the pressure of his girlfriend and his best friend, who try to convince him that on the verge of celebrating his 30th birthday, it is perhaps too late to fulfil his much-awaited dream.
Daniel Diges is a famous musical performer and has starred in productions like Kinky Boots, Los Miserables (in Spain, Brazil and Mexico), El Médico, Hoy no me puedo levantar, Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, High school Musical and We Will Rock You. He won the National Theatre Award for Best Musical Actor in 2009 and 2010.
