TheBadweeds
Information
The choreographer Rocío Berenguer creates and directs two performances of a hybrid and fictional show (a combination of fiction and reality) on a musical group made up of bad weeds. It is performed in French, Spanish, English and Chinese with Spanish subtitles on 12 and 13 April in the Black Hall (Sala Negra) at Teatros del Canal.
Performed on stage by Haini Wang and another two dancers, the production shows a half-human and half-plant trans-species band, which comers from the plant kingdom to share messages with humans. This group called The BadWeeds uses the rhythms of contemporary music to generate choreographic concerts and musical videos, as well as interacting on social media.
As if it were just like any other modern group, it uses codes from the pop culture to proclaim its right to live and co-exist with humankind. During the performance, three plant species in front of a green backdrop sing using microphones that hang down from the ceiling like lianas, whilst images are being screened.
The show is a hybrid concert, a piece that combines dance-theatre, accompanied by digital creations, which turns each of the electro pop and hip hop pieces into a unique discursive event.
Rocío Berenguer is a Spanish director, dancer and performer based in France who is currently on a research residency at the Arts Centre in Enghien-les-Bains and the Hexagone, Scène Nationale of Meylan. She is an associate artist of the Théâtre Nouvelle Génération, Centro Dramático Nacional of Lyon, and her most important productions include Stéthoscope, Memo, Corps/non-lieu (winner of First Prize at the Les Bains Numériques Biennial), Homeostasis#V2 or Ergonomics.
