Pauline Boudry / Renate Lorenz
Information
The Reina Sofía Museum is organising an exhibition project by the artists, Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz, from 7 October to 9 April at The Glass Palace, which delves into the past, transparency, the root of the building’s characteristics and contemporary violence.
Pauline Boudry (Lausanne, Switzerland, 1972) and Renate Lorenz (Berlin, Germany, 1963) have worked together since 2006. They stand out for producing film installations that review recent materials and those from the past to analyse the critical history, the photographic image and movement.
In recent years, they have focused on issues that are popular today, such as cultural inheritance, gender discourse and the queer theory.
Their artistic production questions the normativity of historical narratives, and the conventions associated with the spectator, generating new stages from which to re-imagine them later. To do so, they use all kinds of artistic styles, ranging from film, dance or installation to sculpture or performance.
Their work has been on display at galleries like the Kunsthalle in Zurich (Switzerland), the Kunsthalle in Vienna (Austria), the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven (Netherlands) or the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston (United States). They also represented Switzerland in the 58th edition of the Venice Biennial 2019 with the installation, Moving Backwards, which is currently on display at the CA2M Museum as part of the Portrait of a Movement exhibition devoted to the artists.
