Meet Vincent van Gogh
Information
The only official exhibition of the renowned Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is coming to Madrid for the first time from 30 September to 9 January and can be seen at the Ibercaja Delicias Space. An internationally recognised three-dimensional experience that enables visitors to enter into the life and works of one of the most renowned painters ever, Vincent Van Gogh.
Based on one of Van Gogh’s most important collections and on a thorough investigation into his life, experts from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam introduce visitors to the history and life of the artist through this multi-disciplinary travelling exhibition which is divided into six scenes.
Among the unique experiences offered by the exhibition, visitors to this space can pull up a seat at The Potato Eaters table, climb a golden haystack in Arles and take a selfie in a life sized recreation of Vincent’s bedroom, listen to the stories behind his artworks or feel what it is like to touch the technique of his brush strokes.
The visit also has activities designed for all ages, including projections and a free audio-guide, narrated by Vincent and the people closest to him, based on the Van Gogh Museum’s unique collection of his personal letters. An enriching and educational experience in which you can use a microscope table to learn more about Vincent’s materials, techniques and tools; investigate the layers of Van Gogh’s paintings like a Van Gogh Museum curator; create your own self portrait and explore basic colour theory or learn how to use perspective like Vincent did with a perspective drawing frame; and a children’s scavenger hunt.
Vincent Willem Van Gogh (Zundert, Netherlands, 1853 - 1890 Auvers-sur-Oise, France) was a Dutch painter from the second half of the 19th century, who became one of the leading exponents of Post-Impressionism. Throughout his relatively short life, as he died at the age of 37, he painted around 900 paintings, including self-portraits and water-colours, as well as 1,600 drawings. However, the quality of his work was only recognised after his death and today he is classified as one of the great maestros of painting.
The event is a production of PROACTIV, Spain's leading promoter and organiser of large-scale shows, national and international exhibitions and music concerts with over 30 years of experience.
