Magallanes and Elcano. Without limits
Information
From 15 February to 29 May, Wednesdays to Sundays, the Espacio Ibercasa Delicias will be hosting an immersive museum experience that commemorates 500 years since the first round-the-world voyage taken by Fernando de Magallanes and Juan Sebastian Elcano.
With a view to raising awareness about this great Spanish achievement and these two eminent sailors, the installation will take you inside a full-scale Modern Age ship. Through large murals, screens, and audio guides (available in Spanish and English), you will gain insight into the life of the crew members enlisted on this adventure by listening to the protagonists, sharing their difficulties, and discovering the secrets behind the journey.
A truly unique exhibition that makes you feel like a member of the team that explored the Americas, Asia, and Oceania, although before you will have to overcome storms at sea, enter 16th Century Seville, and gather up all kinds of samples and spices to take home.
The exhibition is divided into four different scenarios. Firstly, Terra Firma, the starting point of the expedition, where various characters give their version of the story: Fernando de Magallanes, Juan Sebastian Elcano, Enrique de Malaca, Antonio de Pigafetta, the king, and the village rogue.
Then there is High Seas, a real-size reproduction of the Nao Victoria, the only ship that returned to Seville after a three-year voyage. Then you will reach Port, where you can visit different places where they docked and take photos and videos to upload to social media. Finally, there the Shop, where you can experience the spice trade first-hand.
The exhibition is produced by LETSGO in collaboration with MONO Films and MKTG. LETSGO is the creator of Naturaleza Encendida, the famous light show that illuminates Madrid's Royal Botanical Gardens every winter, along with theatre productions such as The Hole, Ghost, The Musical and The Addams Family.
