Madrid Flamenco Cycle

    Information

The Alfil Theatre is organising the Flamenco Madrid concert series for yet another year with vocal and guitar concerts performed by an array of great artists on the scene, such as Josemi Carmona, Rafael Riqueni and Antonio Reyes. Various concerts will be held on Thursday 23 February, 9 and 30 March, 13 and 27 April, 11 and 25 May and 8 and 22 June.

The concert series includes great performers of the genre, such as Josemi Carmona, son of the guitarist, Pepe Habichuela, and the dancer, Amparo Niño, who has created his own style with the fusion of flamenco with jazz, salsa and bossa nova. He is considered to be one of the leading figures in recent history of Spanish music, flamenco and guitar.

The prestigious guitarist Rafael Riqueni is also performing as part of the concert series.  Considered to be one of the greatest professionals in the history of flamenco guitar, he was a student of Manolo Carmona and Manolo Sanlúcar, and his many awards include the 31st Compás del Cante Award 2017, considered to be the Nobel Prize of flamenco, the Giraldillo a la Maestría at the 18th Flamenco Biennial 2014 and the Andalusia Award for Culture 1996. He has also won the City of Seville Giraldillo at the Flamenco Biennial 2020 and the Guitar with Soul Award at the Jerez Festival 2020.

Antonio Reyes is a flamenco singer from a family with a long flamenco tradition. His grandmother on his mother’s side is Antonio Montoya, his uncle is Roque Montoya, Jarrito, and he is also related to José Cortés Jiménez, Pansequito, on his father's side.  Altogether, he has released three albums: Viento del sur in 2009, a live recital with the guitarist Diego del Morao in 2015 and Que suene el cante in 2020.

He will also appear on stage with the classic and flamenco guitarist Alejandro Hurtado, first prize winner in the 12th and 16th San Vicente del Raspeig Young Performers Competition 2013 and the Bordón Mining Prize at the Cante de las Minas International Festival 2017.

The Flamenco Concert Series is created by the Flamenco Circle of Madrid, a non-profit cultural association made up of a group of fans with extensive experience in different flamenco projects, which created a meeting point in Madrid in 2013, where first rate performances are held to enjoy flamenco.
