Madrid hosts LesGaiCineMad, the most important LGBTQIA+ film event in the Spanish speaking world. Its 28th edition will be held in November 2023, with a full programme of films on emotional diversity.

Throughout its history, it has become the natural leader of Spanish and Latin American productions for the rest of the world. Its discoveries, subtitling and release of Spanish-American productions have made  LesGaiCineMad a window for LGBTQIA+ film in Spanish for distributors, buyers, producers and international LGBTQIA+ festival programmers. Spain boasts a film history with productions that are legendary in the LGBTQIA+ film industry, with films by the likes of Pedro Almodóvar, Lucía Puenzo or Julián Hernández.

The event has competitive sections dedicated to feature films, short films and documentaries.  The winners are chosen by the audience attending the screenings, with two sessions at different times for each film. Since 2003, Jury Prizes have also been awarded, in which different films are selected based on cultural, aesthetic or social grounds.
