Legally Blonde - The Musical
Information
In autumn 2023, Teatro La Latina is hosting the Spanish première of a vibrant and lively musical with plenty of rhythm based on the 2001 film Legally Blonde, starring Reese Witherspoon, which in turn was an adaptation of the autobiographic novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown.
Following on from its success on Broadway, winning numerous international awards in the West End and its successful tour of Italy, this musical is premièring in Madrid with lyrics and music written by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin and an original libretto written by Heather Hach, accompanied by a colourful choreography.
This musical for all ages is ingenious and animated, taking the spectator to an extravagant and, at times, surrealist world. It tackles major issues, breaks down prejudices and discrimination and teaches that personality does not need to be suppressed in order to be respected in work or study environments. It highlights the power of female solidarity and the importance of believing in oneself.
The star of the story is Elle Woods, President of the Delta Nu Sorority and loyal follower of the rules of fashion magazines: glamour, manicures, shopping and pink accessories. Her boyfriend, Warner, dumps her out of the blue as he considers her to be too blonde and superficial. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the Law Faculty at Harvard University, where her ex-boyfriend is going to study. However, university life is full of hurdles and pitfalls. Her peers and professors do not accept her for who she is and Warner has a new girlfriend, a “nice “dark-haired girl, who is also studying at the faculty.
