Everything else
Information
From 25 February to 28 May, CentroCentro cultural centre is hosting an exhibition that explores spaces of contemporary creation in Madrid. This initiative aims to create public awareness about spaces dedicated to the visual arts.
Although the local context is strongly shaped by public cultural institutions, the aim of this exhibition is to show how independent spaces have enriched the scene, providing autonomy and diversity. There are currently around 40 such cultural spaces in the city, with programmes that include exhibitions, conferences, workshops, artist-in-residence programmes, meals, etc. as well as other events. Everything else came into being through an invitation issued by CentroCentro to four of these spaces to develop a collective curatorial project that explores these lesser-known spaces.
Likewise, if we understand art and culture as a field of knowledge, which is nourished by diverse elements, spaces of contemporary creation are responsible for providing “everything” a public institution does not offer: experimental artistic proposals, shared learning spaces, hierarchical work models, and committed cultural practices, along with other contributions.
On this occasion, the exhibition will include nearly 30 workshops, screenings, music shows and live performances, all related to the creation and research processes of each of the spaces involved.
