Bowie Taken by Duffy: The Exhibition

    Information

COAM hosts the world première of the Bowie Taken by Duffy exhibition. This retrospective exhibition of the iconic photo sessions which brought the photographer and singer together can be seen from 15 March to 25 June. More than 150 objects from the Duffy Archive with music, video clips, photos, large format Chromaluxe prints and video interviews that have never been seen.

Rare prints and original objects from the Duffy Archive, along with new and unseen video interviews with Bowie’s collaborators, are some of the experiences that can be seen in this exhibition.  It is a journey through the 1970s organised by Sold Out, in association with the Duffy Archive and Nomad Exhibitions.

This exhibition presents the work of the non-conformist and legendary British photographer Brian Duffy, with one of the most influential and talented musicians ever.  During the period referred to as Bowie’s Golden Years, they worked together in five photographic sessions and on three album covers.  At this time, they broke down visual and identity barriers.  In 1973, they created a cultural icon with the cover of the album Aladdin Sane.

During these sessions, Bowie leapt from one character to another, always willing to try different things.  Meanwhile, Brian Duffy took the photographs that would bear witness to all these transformations.  The photographer observed a David Bowie who was clearly there to be observed.  He calibrated him, absorbed him, studied him, chatted to him, became his shadow, advised him, interpreted him and in his own way, protected him.  Thanks to these images, the world can get a little closer to the legend.
