From 14 to 17 September 2023, the city becomes the world capital of contemporary art during the Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend. This is a cultural event in which numerous art galleries and museums in Madrid will simultaneously open their exhibitions with extended opening hours, which is celebrating its 14th edition this year with the participation of more than fifty galleries and numerous national and international artists.  

Over four days, Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend will celebrate its fourteenth edition, confirming itself as a major event in the art world at the end of the summer. Its main objective is to bring the general public closer to contemporary creation and disseminate the Madrid artistic scene internationally. On this special occasion, the galleries will endeavour to open their exhibitions to a wider audience in their physical spaces and on-line.

Promoted by Arte Madrid (Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries of Madrid), all visitors will have the opportunity to attend the joint opening of the association’s galleries, which will have special opening times.  

There will be a full programme of activities in different neighbourhoods of Madrid, including guided visits to enjoy contemporary art, events in galleries or the ARCO Gallery Walks organised by the ARCO Foundation. There will also be space for literature, repeating the collaboration with the neighbourhood bookshops, which began in the 2021 edition.

New artists and those who are consolidated participate in exhibitions ranging from avant-garde to contemporary art, as well as numerous disciplines: painting, photography, sculpture, installations, etc. The event attracts collectors, experts and curators from all over the world who discover a high quality selection of works by Spanish and international artists spanning different disciplines, such as painting, sculptures or photography.  

Apertura Madrid is consolidated as one of the world’s most important Gallery Weekends, behind Berlin in number of visitors.
