Andy Warhol. Super Pop
Information
From 12 February until 5 June, at Santa Barbara Palace, the Next Exhibition company is organising an exhibition that looks back at the work of renowned artist Andy Warhol, a fascinating journey through America of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
The exhibition is supported by Art Motors and the Italian Chamber of Commerce and is curated by Edoardo Falcioni. It looks back at the career of this American artist, exploring the different sectors in which he worked: marketing, art history, fashion, music, graphic design, and the world of cinema, photography, and entertainment.
Andrew Warhola (Pittsburgh, 1928 - New York, 1987), better known as Andy Warhol, was a painter and designer famous for being one of the promoters of pop art. He started out as an illustrator in the late 1940s, collaborating with fashion magazines and making book covers and album art. In the following decade, he established himself as an artist after an exhibition at the Bodley Gallery in New York.
In the 1960s, together with Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein, and Tom Wesselman, his work broke free of the boundaries of abstract expressionism, making space for other artistic conceptions and content full of social meaning. In 1962, he inaugurated The Factory, an art studio he ran until 1984. There he created some of his most emblematic pieces: Campbell’s Soup Cans, Marilyn Monroes and Stars, Death and Disasters, creations that can now be seen at this event.
In addition, you can see the artist's polaroids captured with his famous Big Short camera and projects that include stars and models as a way of exploring his relationship with fashion. You will also be able to enjoy the Ladies & Gentlemen series, developed between 1974 and 1975, in which Warhol portrayed the Drag Queen and transgender community of New York, dealing, in this way, with issues such as sexuality and oppression.
