Located between Calle Tribulete, 12 and Sombrerete, 13, with its façade on Calle Mesón de Paredes, this house built in 1872, which inspired the La Revoltosa zarzuela, is the most famous of this type of home  typical of old Madrid.

This construction model which was popular in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries (a timber-framed tenement house, whose balconies overlook an interior courtyard) was immortalised in novels such as Fortunata and Jacinta, by Benito Pérez Galdós.

The House of Tribulete was declared a National Monument in 1977 and restored in 1979.  The demolition of the building that closed the block allows the interior of the house to be seen from Calle Mesón de Paredes, 1. In this space, a square was built in 1973 which now serves as an amphitheatre for zarzuela performances, theatre and other typical Madrid shows.
