Bamboo House
Information
This building by Alejandro Zaera and Farshid Moussavi receives its name thanks to the bamboo covering its façade. The building is covered with bamboo panels that can be moved along its façade protecting it from sunlight and providing thermal, acoustic and visual barrier and a defense against the rain and wind in winter and high temperatures in summer.
The building has 88 apartments with common areas, playground and gardens. Solar panels provide the building with hot water. It is a building that blends perfectly with its surrounding and gives a special touch to the new Carabanchel.
In 2008 it received the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award regarded internationally as a mark of excellence celebrating the Bamboo House as an outstanding work.
