Biblioteca Histórica UCM Marqués de Valdecilla

    Information

This library, created in 2000, is the second largest antique archive in Madrid after the National Library. Its mission is to conserve and spread the literary heritage of the UCM prior to the 19th century, and house the university’s collection of ancient books, manuscripts and incunabula.

The library is located in the building constructed in 1928 at the request of Ramón Pelayo de la Torriente, Marquis of Valdecilla, in Calle del Noviciado, annexed to the former University in Calle de San Bernardo, which has been fully refurbished and fitted out. The literature collection is made up  of around 3,000 manuscripts, 741 incunabula, and a volume of prints from the 16th to 18th centuries which is around 100,000. It also has a small collection of loose prints and  illustration books.

During Science Week (November), the library organises guided tours for individuals and cultural associations. Dates and times are announced in advance on the library's website. For more information, please contact 91 394 66 12 or e-mail:  buc_foa@bucm.es

The library also stages exhibitions throughout the year to raise the profile of its bibliographical collections.
