La Arquería de Nuevos Ministerios
Information
This 2,400 m2 cultural space at Nuevos Ministerios, in one of the buildings belonging to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, was opened in October 1983 under the name of "La Arquería". It has displayed the most relevant contemporary architecture in order to promote architectural culture in Spain. In 2020, rehabilitation tasks have been carried out so that, after its reopening in the first quarter of 2023, it will be the headquarters of the ENAIRE Collection of contemporary art.
Its exhibition programme has included great figures from worldwide architecture, such as Lewerentz, Asplund, Scarpa, Morris, Saarinen, Piano, Tadao Ando, Barragán, Rietveld, Jacobsen, Terragni, Melnikov or Eisenman, as well as the most important Spanish architects from the 20th century: Coderch, Jujol, Fisac, Oíza, Candela, Alas-Casariego, Corrales-Molezún, MBM, Alejandro de la Sota, Cano Lasso, Calatrava; and some important themed exhibitions, such as Architecture from New York or One Hundred Drawings from La Habana.
The Exhibition Hall has reached an extraordinary level in international architectural culture, and specifically in the speciality of exhibition design and montage, the so-called ephemeral architecture, which has been recognised with numerous awards.
Following its refurbishment as an art centre, the hall will be home to the ENAIRE Collection and will permanently display part of the collection of this artistic set, along with other temporary exhibitions. However, it will not only schedule artistic exhibitions: ENAIRE Foundation will coordinate with the Ministry of Civil Work’s General Directorate for Architecture, Housing and Land so that La Arquería does not lose its essence and continues to host initiatives that foster the dissemination, promotion and research into architectural heritage.
