J & J Books and Coffee
Information
A fun option for a cup of coffee, while you read one of its books, which you can buy, as well as practising your English. They organise conversation exchanges, so English and Spanish speakers can practice speaking in each other's languages.
The idea began in 2003, when an American living in Madrid said that what she missed more than anything was drinking coffee on a sofa and reading a book. No sooner said than done. Following a trip to Los Angeles, where they bought thousands of second-hand books, she and her husband created a space in Madrid, to read and have a quiet coffee. This café and bookshop was born, Jaime's dream had become a reality.
Further to organising exchanges to practice another language, they also organise activities like an English quiz, karaoke, etc. There are happy hours (two drinks for one), a set-price beer buffet and a selection of pizzas, pastas, sandwiches and other light bites. It has an extensive bookshop offering books in English (text books, novels, stories, etc.)
