Café Varela Restaurante (Hotel Preciados)
Information
In 1896, one of the most traditional places in the capital opened its doors, a meeting point in the golden age of cafés and literary gatherings of great intellectuals such as the Machado brothers, Miguel de Unamuno, Emilio Carrere, León Felipe and Rafael Alberti. Thanks to its current owner, Melquíades Álvarez, it has become the restaurant of the Hotel Preciados, although it is still an emblematic place full of history that has been modernised to adapt to modern times.
With an elegant yet simple decoration, the restaurant stands out for its cuisine with Galician roots, although the cocido madrileño, which is served every Thursday, cannot be missed. As well as menus with different prices and the daily menu, the menu includes traditional Galician dishes such as Galician-style hake, octopus with cheeks, ox tenderloin or anchovies from Santoña, as well as a varied and tempting variety of pinchos and tapas.
