Welcome to Madrid

The former contestant of the American version of The Voice, Melanie Martínez, is back in Spain following her visit in 2016 to present her hit album Cry Baby. Now, she is back as part of a new tour in which the American artist  will perform the songs from her recently released album, K-12.

This new album, produced by Michael Keenan, with the exception of one song produced by  Kinetics & One Love, has been released following four years of musical silence.  As a result, there is an album, and musical film written, directed and starring Melanie Martínez herself.

K-12, the film, was shot in Budapest and tells the story of a young girl who is sent to an unsettling boarding school hidden away under a fantastical façade. There, she is helped by a friend to overcome the bullying she suffers from her classmates who are under the mental control of the Director and his staff.

The film has been a big hit, in which it is once more evident that visual expression and aesthetics are very important for the artist.  This was revealed in the video clip of her song,  Dollhouse, which was included on her debut album, Cry Baby.

Martínez took her first steps in The Voice, after which, she embarked on an acoustic tour  of the United States in which she wrote the songs that went on to become her debut album. Her songs are characterised by R&B sounds or disordered percussion which are mixed with the most modern and innovative pop and Melanie Martinez’s unclassifiable voice, leading to a different and unmistakable style.
