Shared Cars in Madrid
Madrid is one of the European cities with the biggest offer of car sharing companies. Although the public transport network is excellent, this service is a perfect option for tourists who do not travel to Madrid by car but need one at a specific moment of their visit. If you come to a fair, remember that there is reserved and free parking on the street for almost all of these companies at IFEMA - Feria de Madrid.
The way it works is very simple: you must register on any of the platforms operating in the city (some of them also operate in other cities in Spain and Europe), provide a credit card number and open the app, where you will be able to see the available vehicles. Just choose the car that interests you, unblock it from the app and start it using the keys that you will find in the glove compartment. Once your trip is completed, leave the key where you found it and you must indicate that the service has finished via the app.
The main car sharing companies operating in Madrid are listed below:
The oldest company, Car2go, changed its name to ShareNow. It came to Madrid in November 2015 and became the first company to offer the car sharing service in the city and did so with Smart vehicles. The company now has a fleet of 950 vehicles, of which 300 have four seats. Car models that are available are BMW X1 (hybrids), Fiat500e (electric), Peugeot 208e (electric) and smarts ForTwo and ForFour (which will be renewed during 2022).
This is a very useful and practical way of having a car. Vehicles are available around the corner as they are spread out around the city. Furthermore, it does not matter whether you need a car for two minutes or two weeks, because you can choose what most interests and best suits you. The experience has been validated as it is operating in other major European cities, such as Paris and Berlin, as well as Madrid.
