Edificio Montano

    Information

The popular Malasaña neighbourhood boasts this 19th century building, now uninhabited,  which has been the location for many shoots, including  the series Gigantes or Estoy vivo, and the films, Malasaña 32, May God Save us, Don’t blame karma for being an idiot  or the  Hong Kong film, Line Walker 2.

The building got its name from the Vicente Montano piano factory, one of the few manufacturers of this instrument in the city of Madrid, located in the same place. His children built the erected building, which, in addition to the factory, included several apartments and an impressive concert and recitals hall on the first floor, with ceilings decorated in frescos by the brothers, Germán and Daniel Zuloaga. Inside, artists, such as the tenor, Enrique Granados, the pianist, José Arriola, the violinist, Enrique Iniesta, or the  cellist, Pau Casals, have featured in several recitals.

After the Civil War, the library of the School of Industrial Technicians was set up in the building. Later, in 1956, it was occupied by the Women’s Professional Training Institute and it housed the decoration shop,  Rústika, from 1970 to 2014.

Since 1997, the building has been classified as a fully protected building, as well as the interior of the concert hall and the exterior of its structure.
