Welcome to Madrid

Casa Pepe 1899 is a traditional bar and restaurant, close to Glorieta de Embajadores and La Casa Encendida. It was built right on the old city walls, a sign inside reads. Serving home-cooked meals, tapas and portions, it’s open from breakfast to dinner time.

Opened in 1899 by Ramón García Rodríguez, Casa Pepe was transferred to Valeriano Romero Gutiérrez and Josefa Sanz García in 2015. They refurbished it, making it cosier. Today, the place seats about 50 guests.

On Casa Pepe’s menu, you can find traditional dishes like tripe, Olivier salad, codfish and tomato, baby squid, Spanish potato omelette or meatballs. The specials menu offers homemade casseroles most days. For dessert, you can have the popular Spanish-style French toast, flan or pudding. If you’re coming for breakfast or an afternoon snack, try hot chocolate and churros.
