Silo de Hortaleza

    Information

A polygonal tower by an unknown architect, built in 1928, stands tall over the Huerta de Salud park, an old leisure estate (first owned by Duques de Frías) that the lawyer Pedro Tobar converted in an agricultural-industrial complex in the late 19th century. Now it has been turned into a venue for exhibitions and cultural events, with a reading room and a viewing platform on the top floor that can accommodate a hundred people, with views over Cuatro Torres, Barajas, and the surrounding mountains.

Back in its days, the silo was a part of the impressive three-building complex, the two other being The Barn and The Dovecote, both  destroyed in the 1970s. The storks would perch on them announcing the coming of spring to the neighbours.

The tower is 20 metres and seven storeys high.
