Welcome to Madrid

Until its annexation to Madrid in 1950, the village of Vallecas was an independent municipality. Its main church was built at the beginning of the 17th century by Juan de Herrera, although the tower is the work of another illustrious architect, Ventura Rodríguez, who designed it in 1775.

The temple’s fabulous façade stands out, with a portrayal of the release of Saint Peter, and the geometric mouldings of the arch of the central nave. Its baptism chapel and those of Christ of Health, Nazarene and Trinidad are also of particular interest.
