PLEASE NOTE: El Retiro and eight of the city’s other parks (El Capricho, Sabatini Gardens, the Rose Garden in Oeste Park, Juan Carlos I, Juan Pablo II, Quinta de Fuente del Berro, Quinta de los Molinos and Quinta Torre Arias) may close if weather conditions are severe.

The Rose Garden in Madrid enjoys a privileged location inside Oeste Park, one of the city’s most important green spaces. It is open every day of the year with free entry and reservations are not required. It is in the heart of Madrid, very close to Príncipe Pío station in Plaza de España, the Temple of Debod and the cable car.

The garden was designed in 1955 by Ramón Ortiz, Madrid City Council’s head gardener. Occupying a surface area of 32,000 m2, around 20,000 specimens of 650 different varieties of modern rosebushes (400 low rosebushes and the remaining rosebushes of the rambling, weeping and high varieties, etc...) are grown. Various ponds round off the decoration of one of the emblematic gardens in Madrid.

In 2006, it won the “Garden Excellence Award” granted by the World Federation of Rose Societies, recognising it as one of the exceptional rose gardens worldwide.
