Welcome to Madrid

Initially dedicated to shoemaking and supplying uniforms for the Guardia Civil, the shop now specializes in the sale of a variety of types of shoes, including espadrilles and special shoes for delicate feet.

Called “La Moda Práctica” when it first opened, the name of this shoe shop was changed to its current one by Ángel Carballo, a relative of the owners who worked with them and eventually took over the store. Ownership later passed to his daughters, Rosa María and María Victoria, who still run this shop on Calle de Toledo, near Plaza Mayor in the neighbourhood of La Latina.

The store looks the same as it did on the day it opened, including the cave which now serves as a storeroom but was used as a shelter during the Civil War bombings in 1936. Its customers have included generations of Madrid residents, royalty, writers and actors.
