León Pharmacy
Information
Located in the Literary Quarter, on the corner of Calle León and Calle Cervantes, this pharmacy dates from the end of the 17th century, the Golden Age of Spanish arts. The premises conserve their appearance of an old pharmacy, although the decoration, with dark reddish wooden shelves, decorated in gold, dates from the last century.
The medicine jars are striking, in pottery and glass, although a large number of the pharmacy’s collection was donated to the Museum of Hispanic Pharmacy. The facade shows some splendid white and blue ceramic decoration from the late 20th century and the current owner, Mrs. María Luisa Matesanz, has taken care to conserve its appearance of an olden-day pharmacist’s.
