This multi-brand musical instrument store, specialised in pianos, originates from a piano workshop founded in 1814 by the Dutchman, Jan (Johanes) Hosseschrueders. His nephews, Jan and Pieter Hazen Hosseschrueders, helped him in the workshop, making pianos and harps, whereby the shop is named after them following the departure of Johannes to the Netherlands in 1830. 

Hazen obtained recognition for its work, such as the gold and silver medals awarded in 1828 – 1831 and 1841 by King Fernando VII and Queen Isabel II.

In 1919, Juan Hazen Álamo changed the business name to  "J. HAZEN, Almacén de Pianos. Sucesor de Hosseschrueders", incorporating new activities, such as the repair shop and subsequently the sale of pianos, marketing other brands of Spanish and foreign pianos and incorporating the piano rental service in 1925.

In 1967, Félix Hazen set up Distribuidora General de Pianos S.A., through which Hazen imported European, American and Japanese pianos, introducing the best known brands on the Spanish market and selling them through a network of distributors, many of which were workshops.

In 1991, the Hazen Hosseschruedes Foundation was created, which organises and collaborates in numerous activities related to the piano and pianists, offering diverse courses and workshops.

In 1997, Hazen opened the ship in Calle Arrieta, offering a wide selection of products, whilst still renting pianos for concerts, as well as offering technical services and tuning, etc.

Hazen has another shop in Las Rozas, where there is also a museum, which can be visited free of charge upon reservation on the website and which displays the different models of national and international pianos from the 18th century to the present day.
