Welcome to Madrid

This space at Matadero devoted to the film world, opened in 2011 where the refrigerators and boiler of the city’s former slaughter house used to be located and devoted to the film world, stands out for having an audiovisual programme that focuses on real films (non-fiction films and forms bordering on documentary), the most alternative and independent film and collaboration with various cultural proposals in the city of Madrid.

The Azcona Hall – named after the famous scriptwriter from Logroño – is considered to be one of the most spectacular cinema halls in Europe. The originality of the space, equipped with the latest sound and image technology, has made it into a reference on the capital’s film scene. It has a capacity for 224 people.

It is also a space open to creators who can display their proposals through free access sessions, workshops, seminars and other activities; the Plató Hall with 129 seats, dedicated to independent fiction film and new documentary formats; the Canteen, open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 11pm, and the Canteen Courtyard
