Welcome to Madrid

This residential building, located in the Literary Quarter, was a project built by the architect Eduardo Reynals Toledo between 1906 and 1908. It is one of the most important works of Madrid Modernism and shows clear influences from French and BelgianArt Nouveau.

The contradictory effect produced by the onlooker’s vertical position combined with the pronounced horizontal lines of three rows of balconies, along with exterior decoration of mouldings, corbels, cornices wrought iron on the balconies, where compositions of curves and counter curves give the appearance of stems and plant shapes.

The interior of the building has been wholly reformed by subsequent refurbishments. The doorway, which conserves its Modernist decoration, is very interesting. This is also present in many more details in the interior finish, such as the paintings, the skirting boards, the gate to the lift and the stained glass windows on the stairs and in some of the dwellings, made by the famous Maumejean Company.
