Welcome to Madrid
The museum collection of the Escuelas Pías is housed in the Residencia Calasanz, located in the district of Chamberi. It is dedicated to religious artworks and features a large collection, particularly imagery, with important paintings by Ribera, El Greco and Goya, among others.
The museum is divided into two exhibition spaces:
The Hall of Paintings, most of them relating to religious themes from the Old and New Testament, including works by some of the most renowned painters of the Spanish Baroque (Ribera, El Greco, Francisco Bayeu and Pedro de Orrente, among others), together with Flemish artists. In this room, there is also an original portrait of Azorín, as well as pieces of imagery, metalwork, a Book of Hours dating from the 16th century, and other interesting works of religious art from various eras. One of the most important paintings in the collection is "Christ on the Mount of Olives", by Francisco de Goya.
The Chapel, where you can see "The Last Communion of St Joseph Calasanz", painted in 1819 also by Goya.
