Welcome to Madrid

The Teatro Fígaro-Adolfo Marsillach provides the best in modern national and international comedy. Located in the district of Embajadores, near Lavapiés and the Barrio de Las Letras, this theatre can seat close to 650 people in the audience.

The Teatro Fígaro building was designed by architect Felipe López Delgado, who opted to follow the rationalist style. Originally, the building was designed exclusively for film projections, although over the course of its construction, a decision was made to adapt it for theatre performances and set up a small stage, which has been expanded over the years. It first opened in November of 1931, and the design earned Felipe López Delgado the second medal of the 1932 National Fine Arts Exposition.

After the Civil War, it reopened as a cinema, remaining as such until it recovered its stage activity on 9 October 1969 with the première of Las Criadas by the Núria Espert Company. In January 2008, the actress and entrepreneur Blanca Marsillach took over the programming and she added her father’s name, Adolfo Marsillach, to that of the theatre.

It is currently run by the Smedia Group and is one of the venues in Madrid that is most committed to performances of modern humour and light-hearted theatre plays.
