Vistillas Gardens

    Information

The people of Madrid use this garden of 1.74 hectares in summer for sitting and relaxing on its terraces. It was designed during the 30s and 40s by architects Fernando García Mercadal (1932) and Manuel Herrero Palacios (1945). The project included the construction of the first section, surrounded by a low wall and accessed by a set of stairs, a farm area with trees, a central fountain, stunning flowerbed and lawns, granite walkways, lampposts, and a bust of Zuloaga.

Called “las Vistillas” due to its magnificent views of Mazanares River and Casa de Campo, it usually hosts famous festivals and public festivities. In good weather conditions, this small tree-covered park is filled with people sitting on the terraces and watching a spectacular sunset.

Highlights in the gardens include La Violetera, by Santiago de Santiago, a tribute to Argentina’s actress and dancer Celia Gámez (1905-1992).
