Welcome to Madrid

Upon entering the station, the traveller will be surprised to find a tropical garden surrounded by iron and glass. The former Atocha building for travellers was converted into a tropical garden in an attempt to enhance the station when it was reopened to house the High Speed train (AVE).

The metal structure and glazed roof covering the platforms of the station made it ideal for use as a greenhouse with ponds. The 4000 square metre garden contains over 7000 plants of 400 different species from the Americas, Asia, and Australia.

There are also several restaurants and cafés.
