Welcome to Madrid
The Museum for the Blind (inaugurated in 1992) is a cultural space devoted to the exhibition of artistic works and typhlological material (tools, gadgets, and specific aids for blind and visually-impaired people, models, etc.), which can be felt through the sense of touch.
Today the Museum has four rooms displaying the following: models of monuments and national and international buildings of the Human Heritage; paintings, sculptures, and textile art made by blind and visually- impaired artists; material and documents on the history of blind people, temporary exhibitions of many topics related to blindness, and art exhibitions of Spanish and foreign artists.
In addition to arranging guided tours, the museum offers workshops for families, schools, and the general public, teaching them Braille and giving them insight into the world of visual impairments.
Accessibility
The lighting, the colors of the walls and its contrast to the rest of the elements make orientation around the halls easier for persons with visual disability.
Blind persons also have tactile orientation systems - like double pavement texture differentiating the circulation area from the exhibition - and sound system - like elevator information and photocells located at the main entrance and at the access to every hall.
All the written information is in large print and in Braille; and every floor has tactile orientation maps that help recognize the space and its distribution.

Independent Tours: no booking required.
Guided Tours: Free, for groups of 10 to 25 people. These must all be booked in advance and are subject to availability.
Guided tour in English: Tour of the museum's monuments room. From 10 to 25 people, for the general public, schools, and training centres.
Tours of the collection of monument reproductions: From 10 to 50 people (morning) and from 10 to 25 people (afternoon)
Tours of the typhlology collection: From 10 to 25 people.
Literary and religious tours: Tour of the monument reproductions from literary and religious perspectives, respectively. From 10 to 25 people, adults only.
