Welcome to Madrid
Inaugurated on 2 October 1966 as the Manzanares Stadium, the Atlético de Madrid stadium was demolished in 2020. Its last season playing host to League and Champions League matches was 2016-2017, which ended with the final of the Copa del Rey between Barcelona and Alavés.
The Vicente Calderón stadium was demolished in the summer of 2020 to build a park in its place, which will be called Club Atlético de Madrid. The park will be located on a structure that will be built from the second half of 2021 onwards, to build an underpass for the M-30 as it passes through the space occupied by the stadium. So, Madrid Rio, which was unfinished along this section, can be fully completed, increasing its area by 51,500 square metres.
