Welcome to Madrid

A Baroque style bridge over the Manzanares River. Finished by Pedro de Ribera, it was built between 1719 and 1724. It includes nine half-point spans with granite ashlars. Semicircles along the pavement are numerous, and the two pavilion-shaped bodies at both sides of the central arch house the sculptures of San Isidro and Santa María de la Cabeza, created by Juan Ron.

The work carried out during the period between 1972 and 1974 on the M-30, in the stretch between the Segovia and Toledo bridges included the restructuring of the Puente de Toledo bridge into two curving parallel footbridges, designed by Fernández Casado, converting it into a pedestrian street with no access to traffic. Between 1986 and 1987, the surrounding environment which had been impacted by the M-30 was restored under the direction of Javier Bellosillo. Between 1992 and 1997, the City Council undertook projects of restoration and consolidation, lead by José Mª Sendarrubias and Alberto Arias, whose work was rewarded by Urban Management in 1997.

The last intervention carried out on the bridge was during the construction of Madrid Rio, which directly affected the side arches.
