Welcome to Madrid

Teatro Amaya and La compañía L´Operamore present a special programme from 1 May to 4 June in which  Zarzuela will be the main feature. In what is supposedly the most “Traditional”month of the year and coinciding with the San Isidro Festivities new productions of essential titles from national lyrics will be performed, such as La Revoltosa or La Verbena de la Paloma.

With the quality of the L’Operamore company and the live orchestra, the audience will be able to enjoy five essential titles from national lyrics. Los Gavilanes by Jacinto Guerrero; La del Manojo de Rosas by Pablo Sorozábal; La Revoltosa by Ruperto Chapí; Agua, Azucarillos y Aguardientes by Federico Chueca; and La Verbena de la Paloma by Tomás Bretón.

It must be pointed out that within the event, Teatro Amaya celebrates the 125th anniversary of the première of one of the most emblematic works of the chico genre:  Agua, Azucarillos y Aguardiente. The composer Federico Chueco premièred this production in 1897, with the original text by Miguel Ramos Carrión. It is a story that brings together all kinds of typical characters from Madrid a century ago (sellers, nannies and the working class) who walk by throughout the show, like a kind of customary showcase with traditional Madrid as the backdrop.
