Turandot
Information
Teatro Real brings back the performance of the opera that the Italian composer wrote prior to his death. From 3 to 22 July, the opera returns under the prestigious English stage director Robert Wilson, conducted by Nicola Luisotti and Diego García Rodríguez with the performance of the Teatro Real Resident Orchestra and Choir.
The lyrical drama in three acts Turandot is based on a Chinese fantasy tale by Carlo Gozzi. The opera is set in Peking, where the Emperor’s beautiful but cruel daughter, Turandot, decides that she will only marry the prince who is able to solve three riddles that she sets. A wrong answer will result in the suitor’s execution.
At this time, Timur, an exiled Tartar king, arrives in the city accompanied by his slave Liú. There, they meet Calaf, his son, who falls in love with Turandot at first sight and decides to take up the challenge.
