Welcome to Madrid

The Canadian Cirque du Soleil Company is back in Madrid to perform one of its most iconic shows, Alegría, to mark the 25th anniversary since it was first performed in Spain. A fully revamped classic is back on stage for a new generation to fall in love with it, which can be seen at the Escenario Puerta del Ángel from 16 November to 17 December, with performances from Wednesday to Sunday.

Premièred in 1994, Alegría has become one of Cirque du Soleil’s most iconic shows, having impressed more than 14 million spectators across 255 cities in 40 countries.   To celebrate the 25th anniversary since Alegría first came to Spain in 1998, the company is performing it again from a different perspective, ensuring that all of its members are as inspiring for today’s public as it was when it was originally created.

Made up of five musicians and two singers, the score has been revived, implementing new arrangements, combining electronic and rock sounds with acoustic or orchestral elements, including metal, strings and accordion sounds, in sync with the acrobatics.

At the heart of a kingdom that has lost its king, Alegría witnesses the power struggle at play between the old order and a new movement yearning for hope and renewal. A glorious former kingdom inhabited by a series of great characters, such as our guide, Mr. Fleur, the king’s jester who is now the clumsy and legitimate heir to the throne.

With its unforgettable soundtrack, exciting acrobatics, surreal costumes, vibrant sets and playful humour, the show presents a touching immersive experience imbued with a joyous magical feeling.
