Welcome to Madrid

The most iconic and best known animal of the Ice Age is the mammoth.  Through this exhibition organised at the CaixaForum Madrid cultural space, visitors will be able to delve into the life of these huge animals and discover how they lived and why they disappeared. The exhibition will be open from 28 April to 20 August.

This exhibition delves into the life of these fantastic creatures which appeared on Earth around five million years ago and became extinct four millennia ago. There were various species of mammoth distributed over different areas of the planet.

The last to disappear was the woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), which shared an extreme ecosystem marked by the Ice Age with our ancestors in Siberia. Well preserved remains of this species have been found, such as the spectacular fossilised skeleton, which is on display in the exhibition.
