Welcome to Madrid

From 29 March to 23 July, the CentroCentro cultural centre is hosting an exhibition that offers an encyclopaedic approach to the autobiographical graphic art of women, starting with early voices and continuing up to more recent militants. The work of more than 70 women artists can be seen in the exhibition, showing the plurality of an expanding genre that is testimony to the lives of artists around the world.

The language of graphic art has allowed these women artists to bring to life their unique realities, so that they can be understood beyond their differences of context and the disparity of their styles. The exhibition, curated by Tevi de la Torre, Teresa Ferrero-Peleteiro and Roberta Vázquez, will show examples that address various issues such as health, family, working conditions, sexual identity, social differences, xenophobia, or friendship. Current issues that require a response from society.

The artists who have participated in the exhibition, and who have been invited to select the materials they feel represent them, in addition to explaining their creative experience in their own words, are: Amaia Arrazola, Amy Kurzweil, Ana Mushell, Andrea Galaxina, Angie de la Lama, Ariel Shrag, Anya Ulinich, Barbara Alca, Bea Lema, Camille Vannier, Carla Berrocal, Carlota Juncosa, Carol Tyler, Conxita Herrero, Daria Bodangska, Diane Noomin, El futuro es brillante (Elisa Riera), Elen Forney, Flavita Banana, Fran Meneses, Gemma Correll, Genie Espinosa, Georgia Webber, Giulia Sagramola, Grace Wilson, Laura Endy, Marlene Krause, Marzena Sowa , Meags Fitzgerald, Megumi Iragashi aka Rokudenashiko, Nicola Streeten, Nicole Georges, Nora Krug, Nuria Figueiredo, Pepa Prieto Puy, Power Paola, Quan Zhou Wu, Rachel Ang, Roberta Gregory, Sarah Glidden, Tara Booth, Thi Bui, Tillie Walden, Ulli Lust, Vanessa Davis, Xiomara Correa and Zeina Abirached, to name but a few.
