La Casa del Abuelo
Information
Founded in 1906, this centenary tavern close to Puerta del Sol is still run by the original family, which has kept the essence and authenticity of the establishment. Famous since its origins for its rosquillos (ring-shaped pastries), rolls and sweet wine, it also serves its popular prawns prepared in a variety of ways, as well as other tapas and typical portions of Madrid’s cuisine.
Today, La Casa del Abuelo has six branches: the oldest one is in Calle Victoria, 12; the second in Calle Núñez de Arce, 5; the third one in Calle Goya, 57, which also has a terrace; the fourth in Calle Toledo, 11 (close to Plaza Mayor); the fifth one in Calle de la Cruz, 11; and the sixth one in Calle Sáinz de Baranda, 17. It also has a winery in Toro (Zamora).
La Casa del Abuelo has an on-line store, where its wines can be purchased and it organises several tours around Madrid, which include a drink at its establishments in order to savour some of its tapas.
