Welcome to Madrid

SOM Produce, the company behind major hits, such as Billy Elliot, West Side Story, Grease or Cabaret, is bringing a super-production based on the novel by Roald Dahl, author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or James and the Giant Peach, to Spain for the first time ever.  It is a musical for all the family that can be seen at the Nuevo Teatro Alcalá, with performances from Wednesday to Sunday.

This tale is one of the most successful in contemporary musicals and has been on stage in London for ten tears and on Broadway for six years.  It has won more than 90 international awards, including 24 for the Best Musical, seven Olivier Awards, four Tony Awards and five Drama Desk Awards, among others.  In parallel, it has been enjoyed by more than ten million spectators worldwide.

The production is performed by 29 actors-singers-dancers and eleven musicians.  There is also a large number of child artists, making up more than 50% of the total cast, who have been preparing for 24 months in order to play their roles to perfection.

It tells the tale of Matilda Wormwood, a smart girl with a love of books who one day discovers that she has strange mental powers.  Fed up with her, Matilda’s parents enrol her in the school run by Agatha Trunchbull, a cruel teacher who mistreats pupils. Matilda decides to use her powers to help others and to punish wrongdoers.
