Welcome to Madrid
The Grandes Intérpretes (Great Musicians) programme organised by Scherzo Foundation includes a concert by Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires performing alongside La Filarmónica on 4 October in the Sala Sinfónica of the National Music Auditorium.
The pianist Maria João Pires was born in Lisbon in the 1940s and she gave her first public performance when she was seven years old, playing Mozart's piano concertos in Porto. After two years, at the age of nine, she received the highest award in Portugal for young musicians.
Throughout her long and successful career, Maria João Pires has performed all over the world, accompanied by leading orchestras. These include the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Paris, and the Wiener Philharmoniker.
On this occasion, the pianist will be performing a selection of pieces at the National Music Auditorium as part of the Great Musicians concert series alongside La Filarmónica.
