Welcome to Madrid

From 17 December onwards, Neptune Palace will be home to an exciting immersive experience, created by means of videomapping , accompanied by a selection of photographs that refer to known and unknown moments in the life of artist Frida Kahlo, recognised as a pop icon of Mexican culture.

Organised by Next Exhibition and curated by Alejandra Lopez, the exhibition takes you on a journey through the artist's life and showcases the settings and surroundings that characterised it, such as her home, La Casa Azul. The exhibition is an ode to joy, to life, and to resilience in the face of adversity.

Frida Kahlo (Coyoacan, Mexico City, Mexico, 1907 - 1954) was able to transform her immobility into opportunity and suffering into energy. The artist is a true icon of the contemporary world. Her work revolves thematically around her biography and her own suffering. Throughout her career she created approximately 150 works, mostly self-portraits, where she captured her difficulties surviving.

Alejandra López, curator of The Frida Kahlo Experience, has for ten years now coordinated the collections, temporary exhibitions, and restoration of Frida's legacy at La Casa Azul, the Frida Kahlo Museum located in Mexico City. In her words, the exhibition is a visual selection of important moments in the artist's life that allow us to appreciate the different stages of her journey. You will learn about her personal care and the intimacy of friendly encounters captured by famous photographers, as well as iconic moments from Mexican and world history.
