Casa Alberto
Information
This tavern was founded in 1827 on the site of the building where Miguel de Cervantes lived and wrote his two masterpieces: the second part of "El Quijote" and "Los trabajos de Persiles y Segismunda". It is one of the most outstanding centenary venues in Madrid, where you can enjoy traditional Madrid cuisine with a touch of the avant-garde and a gripo vermouth made in the tavern itself.
Located in the Barrio de las Letras, it still preserves memories of Cervantes, exhibited on the second floor of the tavern, along with other more modern ones: his zinc booklet next to the beautiful onyx and wood bar, his bottle rack, his Seltz water manufacturing manometer, his old and valuable tap, the cash register, the columns and some ticket offices where tickets were sold for the theatre class.
In the times of Fernando VII, the people of Madrid would come to Casa Alberto to drink a glass of wine with a hard-boiled egg and a piece of cod. Nowadays, customers can taste typical dishes such as Callos with a recipe from Madrid and cod. The specialty is stewed oxtail, considered one of the best in all of Madrid.
