Welcome to Madrid

The American singer-songwriter and producer Joan As Police Woman will be performing her latest four punk rock albums, released between 2018 and 2021, at El Sol on 26 February.

Born in Biddeford (USA) in 1970, Joan Wasser, known artistically as Joan As Police Woman, is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who has distinguished herself as one of the most non-conformist and innovative pop rock artists of recent decades.

Joan started in music in 1991 playing violin with the Dambuilders, with whom she released three albums. After a brief stint with Black Beetle and Those Bastard Souls, in 1999 she joined Anthony and the Johnsons, with whom she won a Mercury Prize for the album I Am a Bird Now.

In 2004 she decided to launch her own career, using the name of the TV series Police Woman as a reference. After an EP of the same name, in 2006 she released her first LP, Real Life, a fusion of punk, rock, rhythm and blues and American soul.

Throughout his almost two decades of solo career, he has collaborated with other authors such as Elton John, Lou Reed, John Cale, Scissor Sisters and Dave Gahan. In addition, he has released nine albums, of which he now exhibits: Damned devotion from 2018, the compilation Joanthology from 2019, the covers album Cover Two from 2020 and the live Joan As Police Woman Live from 2021.
