Welcome to Madrid

Practical Information

Located at the beginning of the Barrio de las Letras, very close to Puerta del Sol, is this café, one of the most beautiful - and most charming - in Madrid, which occupies the site of an old jewellery store. Its name recalls a previous Café del Príncipe that was located next to the theatre of the same name on Príncipe Street, which does not exist today, and which was a symbol of Spanish romantic literature, where the members of the tertulia El Parnasillo met with Mariano José de Larra, José de Espronceda, Ramón Mesonero Romanos or José Zorrilla, among others.

The premises are divided into two floors, the street level, with large windows from which to observe the Plaza de Canalejas sitting at one of its tables, and the upper floor. Its decoration is classic, presided over by a beautiful wooden bar with brass fittings, with several wooden and marble tables.

Besides being able to enjoy a variety of coffees and cocktails, it also has a menu for lunch and dinner and menus, which include some of the most typical dishes of Madrid, such as cocido.
